Confessional Friday: {Special Edition - Getting to Know You!}

I know I just did a "Who am I?" post but today I am linking up with Leslie from A Blonde Ambition for a fun getting-to-know you post.

My name is Terrai {ter-ray} and I was born & raised in Saskatoon, SK. A lot of people can't pronounce my name properly or wonder where it came from. My mom made it up in high school and said she would name her daughter it. It can be a pain sometimes for people to really grasp & say it right, but overall I feel very lucky to have such a unique name created by such a lovely lady.

I have an 18 year old brother and parents who have been married for over 27 years. My dad is shop foreman at agriculture & construction dealership shop and my mom works in customer service for a grocery supplier. My mom is my best friend. Her and I never had a rough patch together as I grew up and we've only become closer as I became an adult. She is the one person I go to with every and anything.

I have worked for almost 5 years full time at a steel fabrication shop as receptionist/document controller. I really enjoy my job and work for a wonderful company.

I met my husband at a party while I was in high school almost 7 years ago. A week after we started texting/ hanging out, he Told me I was his girlfriend on September 3, 2007. We moved into our first apartment together in April 2010 and then into our first home in January 2011. On August 19, 2011 we got engaged and on May 25, 2013 we got married. We have been inseparable since September 2007 !

We spend our summers at a lake that is close to home. My parents have a seasonal campsite and his parents own a cabin at that lake. We are there pretty much every weekend from May - September. We spend the weekends golfing {lots}, playing lasso golf, drinking, eating, visiting, playing in the water. It truly is our favourite place to be & when lake season ends, the countdown is on for when we get to go back.

I'm not considered a world traveller, but I do have some good places stamped on my passport. Paris, Berlin, Switzerland, Disney World, Las Vegas, Mexico are some of the places I've been. Switzerland and Mexico have to be my top favourites. We have a few more places we'd like to go but I don't think that will be anytime soon.

We have 2 cats, Bella & Izzie, that we consider to be our fur-babies. I'm a huge animal lover, but cats {and particularly ours} have my heart. People make fun & laugh that I arrange house sitters or hang around home when we're gone too long in order for Bella & Izzie to be taken care of but I can't help it. They literally are our babies {for now} and we love them too much to not care about them.

That's the short story about me !

Weekend Re-cap & Day 1 of Change

We had a very good & busy weekend. Friday night was spent playing a few rounds of golf in the garage.

Saturday we hung around home for the day. The Walkers came over for a visit in the afternoon, we went to my parents for supper & then to Neil & Dallas' football game. They won ! After football we went back to mom & dads to have drinks + eat pizza in the garage. It's been a longgg time since we've hung out at their place.

Sunday was spent home decor shopping. I found lots of goodies! Superstore, Michaels, Pier 1 Imports, Home Outfitters, Home Sense all had something for me. I'm really happy with the pieces I bought so far. It's really changing the mood/ feel of our house & even Neil likes what I've bought {bonus} !

By Sunday night we were both a little wiped. Neil had played 27 holes of golf, had a football game Saturday night + a basketball game Sunday afternoon. He was walking around like an old man. And for myself, shopping was exhausting. Going to all these places, having lunch, picking + choosing what would work is very tiring ;) It was a great weekend.

And finally, today is day 1 of change. Time to start losing some weight and getting healthier. I've joined Weight Watchers online and I'm determined to stick with it. If I want to start a family, I need to take care of myself first and this is how I'm going to do it. I'm not planning on writing about meals or if I've lost OR gained any weight. I'm just stating today is day 1 of change for me and I am ready to do it. I'm not saying "I hope I can do it, I hope it works", I am saying I am doing it and it is going to work.

Add Some Colour

I don't know when it happened but lately I have the itch to add some colour into our home. We have played it pretty safe with our decor choices & colours since moving in February 2011. Brown walls, dark brown couches, dark brown table & chairs, brown coffee & end tables.. you get where I'm going. Our main living area is brown and to me, it's now boring. When we first moved in I made the error of choosing a tangerine orange colour for our walls. It so didn't work. It was awful so we re-painted all the orange walls brown.

I've been following the blog I Heart Organizing and I LOVE her creativity when it comes to decorating her home. She uses colour and textures and they all look amazing together ! I want to achieve decorating like that but in small steps.

I've been browsing on Etsy, Pinterest, Wayfair, Room and Board and alll of these other sites looking for things that I like and that will work with our main brown pieces. I am in no way a creative person or a confident interior designer, I'm just trying to decorate our home one step at a time.

I love Etsy because it has soo many choices and options and the items are usually priced fairly decent. It has the things I think of and want but no stores locally have.

What I'm Loving Wednesday

I'm loving...

... that it's cold enough outside to keep my Equinox clean for more than a day

... the new accent cabinet I bought from Target yesterday & that it works perfectly to hold our decorative drinking glasses, wine glasses & salads bowls {that's all I have in it for now}

... that we get to have the Walkers over on Saturday {golf in the garage for the guys, a movie for the boys and visiting for Krys & I}

... the new pillows I ordered online from Etsy and a few decorative wall pieces off Umbra {they're not here yet, but I'm excited to receieve them !}

... my new hair {cut & colour last night}

... & finally that we get to see our nephew tonight !!!

I search... for lip balm in my purse everyday

Bar Carts/ Drink Stations

The bloggers I follow have been posting photos of their gorgeous bar carts/ drink stations lately. It's giving me the itch to try this out in our home. There's one spot in our "dining room" that a cute, little decorated bar cart would work !

Neil laughed at me when I showed him my pins of inspiration. He thinks the bar cart looks like something a grandparent would have in their home in the 1970s while they had plastic wrap on their couches. Ouch. So I'm on the hunt for something that's more of a buffet style. We went to a few places last night & I couldn't find anything ! I'm hoping it'll be able to find what exactly we want sooner rather than later.

A Kittie Miracle

Last night something happened.. for the first time EVER in 4 years.

Our cats, Bella & Izzie were sleeping side by side in the same space!! It made this cat mama's heart melt!

We got Bella in May 2010 while we were living in our first apartment and we got Izzie in July 2011 after moving into our first house. Bella was not happy with us when we brought Izzie home. I remember telling Neil that we made a mistake getting a second cat and Bella was going to hate us forever. It took a good amount of weeks before Bella got use to the idea that this little furball was going to be a permanent tenant in the house.

Since then, everything has been all good with these two. They play together, they keep each other company when we're away but they're not the type of cats to ever cuddle together. They'll sleep beside each other in separate beds but that's as close as it gets.

But that changed last night when Bella was happily sleeping on the fleece green blanket and Izzie came over to make herself comfortable right beside Bella. They were even touching and stayed sleeping that way for a while! I was in shock & awe that our two loved little fur-balls were sleeping side by side. It was a totally family moment as we hung out downstairs.

And yes.. I get excited about our 2 kitties when they're being cute & lovey. I can't help it, we don't have a baby.... yet.

From Sand to Snow

On Sunday I woke up to the humid air of Mexico & the sound of waves from the ocean. On Sunday night I arrived back home surrounded by snow & darkness. It's depressing.

We {mom, dad, Neil & I} spent a fantastic week in Mexico! When we woke up on January 5th and the temperature was disgustingly cold {felt like -52 w/ the windchill}. We carefully drove to mom & dads that morning & headed for the airport at 6:30am.

We arrived in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico 3 hours late and headed straight for our resort. Once we got to there we were greeted with a delicious cold drink, a cold towel & were taken to our rooms. It didn't take long for us to switch into shorts & sandals and enjoy our first cervaza of many. Because of the delay leaving home we only had a short time to check out resort before the sun went down.

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday & Saturday were spent in the sun & in the pool. Our goal was to come back home as dark as possible and mom & I did a pretty good job of achieving that goal. Every morning we would get up and go for breakfast, eat, hang out in the pool until lunch, eat, head back to the pool until supper, eat & watch the entertainment in the evening. That was our routine for the week and it was perfect.

On Wednesday we ventured into Puerto Vallarta to check out the market along the boardwalk. We also got to meet up with our dear lake friends Gilbert & Merial at the Cheeky Monkey. It was the best visit! We had delicious drinks & food and had the most amazing backdrop to look at. It was a really fun afternoon in town.

We would go for walks along the beach, check out the main pool, witness a few weddings and just relax throughout the week. I have never experienced a vacation where you literally get to do nothing. It felt so refreshing to get up in the morning, hang out in the sun and pool and go with the flow of things. These past 2.5 years have been so, so busy for us! This vacation was really needed & enjoyed. It also gave us the bug to try to get away every 2 years at least. Can't wait to start planning our next trip!

We really did have a great vacation. Had fun together, shared lots of laughs, made lots of memories, drank way too much, ate delicious food and saw lots of new things. We both have nothing but good things to say about it!Thanks mom & dad for letting us "crash" your trip & mom, I hope you had the best **th birthday! xo

Now... how many more days before the snow is gone??

Goodbye 2013, Hello 2014

Another year gone, another new year here.

2013 was a very, very big year for us!

The biggest & most important thing that happened was Neil & I got married on May 25th. We got engaged on August 19, 2011 and I had been counting down until May 25, 2013 for a long, long time. I couldn't wait for midnight to strike on New Years Eve 2012. It was the best day of 2013 and of my life! It's crazy to think that in just over 4 months it will already be our first wedding anniversary.

Other notable things for 2013 were:

.. our nephew was baptized in January & we were named his Godparents, such an honour
.. my mom & bridesmaids put on a bridal shower & stagette for me
.. Neil got to celebrate with the boys on his stag
.. my brother graduated from highschool & went to Cuba
.. we spent pretty much every weekend at the lake & got to use our Pink Panther golf cart a lot
.. Neil was a best man for his brothers wedding in July, I was a bridesmaid for my cousins wedding in November
.. Neil & I went to Banff for our honeymoon & Las Vegas in August. I got to fulfill an item on my bucket list and see Celine Dion!

there were so many more wonderful things we did and got to be a part of in 2013. It was a big year for us as well as family members. I really have no complaints for 2013 and can only hope 2014 brings many more good memories.
